Inferno Softball

Welcome to the Inferno -- MVSA's newly created "in-house" fastpitch softball team!  We are a team of personable, dynamic young players who will be playing a 32- to 40-game schedule in the Central Maryland League (CML) and various tournaments within 50 miles of our hime in Montgomery Village, Maryland.  Girls born in 1992 or later are eligible.

The first objective of our team was to give recreational and intermediate-level players a place to "get more serious" about playing the game properly.  We did that with our winter workouts.

Our second objective was to assist our players' efforts to make their high school teams.  That objective was also accomplished by having all of our high school players making either their JV or Varsity teams -- and one of our 8th graders is playing JV at her private school!

Our third objective is to win games playing focused, aggressive, personable, and smart softball.

Frequently Asked Questions About Inferno Softball:

What is the level of play of the Inferno?
The Inferno will play approximately 32-40 games at the C/B level (as compared to the MVSA Storm teams, which play approximately 60 games at the A level).  This season (2009) we are playing in the Central Maryland League (CML) and in five USSSA "C" level sanctioned tournaments within our local area in May, June, and July.  Teams in CML come from the Olney Cougars, the Germantown Titans, Clarksburg, Reisterstown, Westminster, Hampton, Taneytown, Cockeysville, and other places.

When will the Inferno begin its season?
The team will begin playing around May 15, following the end of the high school season.

What kind of time is involved with the Central Maryland League and other local tournaments?
The CML usually plays double-headers on weekends and holds an end-of-year tournament.  The USSSA tournaments are three-game minimum tournaments beginning on Saturday.

When does the Inferno practice?
The team held winter workouts for about ten players.  Spring and summer practices are held on Sundays and Wednesdays, unless a game is scheduled at that time.

Where does the team practice?
The team practiced in a local gym during the winter and rented time at a local batting cage called "The Dugout" in Gaithersburg.  Spring and summer practices are held at Patsy Huson Field on Fulks Farm Road in Montgomery Village, Maryland.

Does the Inferno practice during high school season?
No.  The team will not work during the high school season.  Girls are with their school teams and are working six days a week.  Working on Sunday would be too much.  They need time to do homework and heal from high school softball.  The team begins practicing when the high school season is over.

How much does it cost to play on the Inferno?
The cost for the Inferno is between $500 and $600.  MVSA softball has several activities in place that can help cover those costs.  There is a raffle ticket sale in January and February and players can sell tickets to help offset the costs.  Also, MVSA is a nonprofit organization and will help girls get sponsorship donations from local merchants.  Although both fundraising and sponsor money are paid towards MVSA as an organization, the player accounts are offset by the amount they bring in.

There is a committment fee that players must pay once they accept a permanent spot on the team.  This, along with fundraising and sponsor money, is nonrefundable.
